ARTICLE 5.9 PROHIBITED PLACEMENT OF SIGNS

The following locations are specifically prohibited for the placement of signs in the Township.

Section 5.9.1 Utility poles, trees, posts, fences and traffic signs

No utility pole, tree, post, fence, or traffic sign shall be used for the posting of any sign except those that may be required by the Township of Berkeley Heights for the emergency regulation of traffic.

Section 5.9.2 Obstructions to doors and windows

No sign shall be erected, constructed, relocated, or maintained so as to prevent or obstruct free ingress and egress from any door, window, opening for fire fighting purposes, or opening required for legal ventilation

Section 5.9.3 Stand pipes

No sign shall be attached to any stand pipe

Section 5.9.4 Traffic hazards

No sign, other than approved traffic control signs, shall be erected at the intersection of any street or upon any street in such a manner as to obstruct free and clear vision and sight lines or at any location where. by the position, shape, or color, it may interfere with, obstruct the view of, or cause confusion with, any authorized traffic sign, signal or device, and no sign shall make use of words, phrases, symbols or characters in such a manner as to interfere with, or mislead or confuse traffic No sign which is of such a form. character or shape as to confuse or dangerously distract the attention of the operation of a motor vehicle shall be permitted

Section 5.9.5 Entrance and Exit

No parking lot or property entrance or exit sign shall be placed so that its plane is parallel to the center line of the street to which the entrance or exit is joined

Section 5.9.6 High Altitude

No sign shall be placed on the second or higher story of any building

Section 5.9.7 Residential Window Signs

No window signs are allowed in any residential zone.

Section 5.9.8 Local Placement

All signs shall be limited to the site, parcel, or premises where the business or service is conducted or which is the subject of the communication set forth on the sign
