ARTICLE VII - SIGNS AND BILLBOARDS
Section 701 - Residential/Agricultural Districts

No sign or billboard shall hereafter be erected, except as specifically permitted as follows:

A. Official highway signs, PenDOT approved.

B. Signs indicating the farm, home or home occupation of the owner or the occupant, provided no such sign shall be larger than twenty (20) square feet in total area.

C. Signs prohibiting gunning, fishing, hunting or trespassing upon a particular property or to indicate the private nature of a road, driveway or property, provided no such sign shall be larger than two (2) square feet in total area.

D. Signs to indicate that the property upon which they are erected is for sale or rent.

E. Signs indicating the location of a roadside stand and advertising the products sold therein, provided no such sign shall exceed twelve (12) square feet in area.

F. Legal notices required by law.

G. Signs indicating the name and location of any buildings erected for the purpose of conditional uses. Sign design shall meet with the approval of the Board of Supervisors.

Section 702 - Commercial District Regulations

It is the intent of this section to provide a means of communication for commercial purposes while the basic nature of the Township.

A. On-Premises signs shall carry only messages strictly incidental to a lawful use of the premises. Such sign or sign device may present messages indicating business transacted, services rendered, goods sold or produced on the premises, name of the business, name of the person, firm or corporation occupying the premises.

1. Free standing shall not exceed 36 square feet total.

2. Fascia or wall signs shall not exceed 270 square feet total.

3. Projecting signs shall not exceed 36 square feet total.

4. Roof signs shall not exceed 48 square feet total.

B. Off-Premise signs shall be in accordance with existing Township ordinances.

C. Safety and Engineering: - Requirements necessary for the preservation of the public safety and welfare.

1. Bond and license required to erect and maintain signs.

2. UL label or equivalent required on all electrical signs.

Section 703 - General Sian Regulations

The following regulations shall apply to all permitted sign uses:

A. No sign shall be placed in such a position that it will cause danger to traffic on a street by obscuring the view of drivers, or would obscure fight or air from a building.

B. No sign, other than official road signs, shall be erected within the legal road right of way nor within ten (10) feet of a curbline, whichever is greater.

C. No sign shall be erected which revolves, has moveable parts, flashing lights or reflectors, emits smoke or other potentially hazardous activity.

D. No sign shall project above the highest edge of the roof of a building. No free standing sign shall, at its highest point, be more than fifteen (15) feet from ground level.

E. The size of a sign shall refer to the area of the sign facing, including any border framing or decorative attachments.

F. All signs must be maintained in good condition and repair,

G. All signs shall be made to complement architectural design of the building and establishment they are associated with. Drawings submitted for sign permits shall show the proposed size, location and illumination in detail.

Section 704 - Sign Permits



A sign permit shall be required prior to erection of, alteration of, or enlargement of any sign or sign structure. Official highway, real estate, "No Trespassing", "No Gunning", "No Fishing , " "Posted", and "No Hunting" signs, and signs required by public law may be erected without a sign permit. No sign permit will be issued, except in conformity with the regulations of this Ordinance, and to the satisfaction of the Board of Supervisors. Applications for sign permits shall be made to the Zoning Officer. (Amended 7/5/89)

Section 705 - Emergency Response Identification

A. All properties in the Residential/Agricultural District with structures erected shall post street number that are visible from, and can be readily read from, the street. (Amended 6/10/9 1)

B. All properties in the Emergency Response Identification, Commercial Districts in Commercial Use with structures erected thereon shall post:

1. street numbers that are visible from, and can be readily read from, the street and (Amended 6/10/91)

2. the name of the occupying corporation or organization in letters that are visible from, and can be readily read from the street and/parking lot (Amended 6/10/91)

3. the name of the occupying corporation organization in letters that are visible from, and can be readily read from, the rear of the premises and/or the loading area. (Amended 6/10/91)

4. Signage for the purpose of this Section shall be located so that it does not violate other provision of the Article. (Amended 6/10/91)
